PHARAOH'S SNAKE (SUGAR + BAKING SODA)
NEEDED

     -  Sugar
     -  Baking soda : NaHCO3
     -  Charcoal lighter fluid
     -  (Sand)

PROCEDURE

Fill a bowl with sand and soak in lighter fluid
of any kind. Make a well mixed 1to1 mixture of
baking soda and sugar and pile quite some of it
in the midst on the sand.
Light it with a lighter (a long-necked one is
advantageous). After an initial random growth
period, a snake almost as perfect as in he
     original Pharaoh's snake appears.

COMMENTS

Apart form the heat there is nothing
dangerous or toxic produced in this reaction,
so everything can be disposed in the normal
     waste.
This reaction is a bit mean-spirited:
     depending on the circumstances (temperature,
wind, sugar-soda-ratio, ...) the snake looks more
like small slugs, short arms, one big blob, or
anything else. Another disadvantage of this
     reaction is its slowness.
The snake :-)
